Many decisions they had to make to turn an idea into a complete product. They could have done a sidescroller, like Mega Man or Contra to bank on Bond’s riveting action. They could have done a visual novel to highlight his fun stories, or a driving shoot-em-up like Spy Hunter to showcase his driving abilities. They instead chose to portray the biggest time waste in all James Bond stories: James walks around doing spy stuff. To portray that they went with a top-down adventure view, very similar to what you saw in The Legend of Zelda.

Agent Under Fire was my favorite game in my childhood 11. GoldenEye 007: Reloaded Years later, when I was in college, I distinctly remember going to a friend's room and firing up the N64 for matches of my favorite games like Super Smash Bros., Star Fox 64, and, of course, GoldenEye 007. GoldenEye stuck out to me as the game that aged the poorest of that lot, thanks mainly to how much the shooter genre had progressed with newer franchises like Halo, Call of Duty, and the then-recently released Black. At that moment, I wrote GoldenEye 007 off as a massively influential game that will never feel as good as it once did due to the enormous advancements within its genre since its release. That's the mindset with which I entered my play sessions with these new releases of GoldenEye 007.

Although the title suggests that it may be a sequel to Rare's classic 1997 game GoldenEye 007, the two games have no connection. In this game, GoldenEye is the codename of the playable character who is given a literal golden eye after he is shot by Dr. No. This eye isn't just for show though, it has multiple abilities. The game contains three different "sub games," according to MI6's review, each of which covered a particular scene from the film. These included a driving segment and some side-scrolling action. Unfortunately, the three separate mini-games don't quite connect in any sort of meaningful way. The disjointed nature of the game's plot, combined with the numerous bugs and glitches, made the game almost unplayable. However, as MI6's review mentioned, the game did feature some great music, including a chiptune version of Duran Duran's title song. Leave a Reply Cancel reply The game is memorable even on the level of a pure shooter, with a stealth level with a tranquilliser gun (a level mandatory for every Golden-era game), shootouts in a skyscraper and a Japanese mansion, a climax with laser guns in space, a memorable sniper mission, and the infiltration of the villain’s lair, along with numerous vehicle levels, making Nightfire full of the variety that defines a classic Bond game.
